Lani is a sheep rancher and fiber artist in Surprise Valley, CA. She makes yarn, combed top and fabric with raw wool raised on her family ranch, The Bare Ranch. All the wool is raised to be certified Climate Beneficial. To achieve this designation, the Bare Ranch does conservation work on the ranch with the goal of drawing down carbon into the soil where it is beneficial and creates healthy soils.

Lani recently joined Bonnie Chase in the Warner Mountain Weavers Store and Studio in Cedarville, CA. Working out of the Weavers shop gives her the time and tools for natural dyeing using plants mostly wild gathered in the Great Basin. The shop offers classes and a wide variety of yarns as well as rugs, accessories and equipment for weaving and spinning.

Given the size of the Bare Ranch wool clip, Lani has been able to sell her raw wool to The North Face, Brooklyn Tweed, A Verb for Keeping Warm, Sincere Sheep and many other indie dyers and local yarn stores. The North Face has released a line of accessories and garments that they can call Climate Beneficial, thanks to the conservation work being done on the Bare Ranch.

Bare Ranch Wool Blanket

Natural White Wool Long Throw made entirely in the United States from Climate Beneficial Wool TM sourced from the Bare Ranch in Northern California/NW Nevada. These wool throws are soft and comfy and just perfect for curling up on a chilly night! These are lifetime blankets, meant to be used by the whole family and passed on to the next generation. The yarns are spun to be thick and loosly twisted which allow the warmth to flow through the blanket.

Warner “Marble” Sport Weight Rambouillet Wool Yarn on Cone

Warner: This unique skein of yarn is a twist -some call it the “candy cane” yarn-using white wool plied with different shades of black and gray wool. It is not dyed. This yarn comes in Marble, Granite, Stone, and Chalk. Yarn is a 3 ply Sport with 300 yards/4 oz. skein. Suggested needle size is 3-5. The wool for this line is sourced from The Bare Ranch in California. This line of Naturally Colored Yarns are all squishy and will bloom when blocked. The yarns are processed and spun at Mountain Meadows Wool in Buffalo, Wyoming using a combed preparation. This technique ultimately reduces piling of your finished product.
